MBABANE – While winning is everything in any sport, rules still have to be adhered to as per the dictates of fair play.

However, the local elite football game is currently under siege over supernatural beliefs which have come with a heavy price for clubs in the end. Just over the past weekend at Mhlume’s Nsukuwansuku Stadium, the game between Mbabane Highlanders and Matsapha United was marred by violence and usage of alleged foreign substances before and during play. This did not go unnoticed by the match officials.

“Wrong entry was used by Highlanders after they forced their way in by breaking down a padlock and threatening to assault anyone standing in their way. The stoppages and violence over what is called foreign substance suspicion is also covered in the reports,” said an impeccable source yesterday.
The source said it was a dramatic day last Sunday at the stadium, as both clubs were determined to ensure no tricks were played by the other off the field.
If found guilty...

This drama is set to cost Highlanders a whopping E85 000 if charged and found guilty by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee, while the team could pay a maximum E10 000 fine according to the MTN League Rules and Regulations.

“Highlanders used the gate that is for paramedics and police officers instead of the main gate and forcefully so with their marshals escorting the team’s kombi,” alleged the eyewitness source, who said the game had to be stopped twice due to the use of the alleged foreign subsance beliefs as tempers flared between players and officials alike.

The source, further said it was obvious that this was about winning and not losing the match for either side. Highlanders won it late through a Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze penalty after struggling to break their rivals’ defence. The situation after the game got even more interesting as Highlanders’ team director, Zweli Jele was captured having a few words for the coach Saul Chaminuka.

However, both Jele and the coach said it was only about congratulating the latter for the win.
Only later that the coach expressed his feelings through WhatsApp, where he wrote as his status that he tried his best but it was not enough ‘for him to understand’. The forceful and wrong entry into the stadium, and threatening by conduct or words or attempt to assault officials and marshals carries a maximum fine of E30 000 and E10 000 minimum (Article 7 (b).

For the alleged use of provocative or insulting gestures/signals, unbecoming behaviour or conspiracy or attempt to act to bring football into disrepute or inciting people to behave in a manner that brings the game of football into disrepute, it is a minimum fine of not less than E10 000 and a maximum fine of not less than E30 000 and they could be forced to pay for the broken property at Nsukuwansuku (Article 7 (d).
