MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns assistant coach Mduduzi ‘Nyama’ Shongwe has been sidelined following an alleged bust-up with one of the top officials.

Shongwe was deputising for Malawi-born gaffer Charles Manda until the decision to stop him this week. It was reliably gathered that Shongwe was allegedly in a heated argument with one of the top officials (name withheld) at the technical area during the midweek game, which the team won 2-1 over Manzini Wanderers over a week ago.

“The assistant coach and the official clashed in front of the players.
“About a week later, he has been told to stop executing his duties after being accused of failing to take instructions by the official,” alleged an impeccable source.

Shongwe confirmed an altercation with one of the top officials, but referred comments on his sidelining to the team.
“Only Sundowns can shed light on the issue, but I have been told to stop working for the team for now,” said Shongwe.

The official, who is said to have clashed with Shongwe, cannot be named following fruitless attempts to get his comments.
Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa could only confirm that Shongwe had been put on ice, but stressed that it was an internal matter.
“We shall inform the public once the internal processes  have been completed,” said Matsenjwa.

Shongwe was in charge of the team for the first few games of the campaign following the unceremonious departure of Zimbabwe-born gaffer Darlington Dodo at the beginning of the campaign. He has been an assistant to Manda, who has led the team in three games so far. ‘Nyama’, who is one of the celebrated former players at Sundowns, was on the bench when Sundowns played a 1-all draw with Royal Leopard last Sunday.

Meanwhile, Matsenjwa invited fans to Nsukuwansuku Stadium in Mhlume for the showdown with Mbabane Citizens tomorrow. A return trip costs E50, which is a 50 per cent discount.
