LOBAMBA – Green Mamba are relentless in their pursuit for their first MTN Premier League title since the 2010/11 season.

Caleb Ngwenya’s men shook off a stubborn Mbabane Citizens 4 – 2 at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday to unseat rivals Royal Leopard at the summit of the charts. The latter were dislodged at the top after they played a 1-all draw with capital giants Mbabane Highlanders.

Despite major scares in the game, which were headlined by the injury of Mpendulo Mamba, who appeared to have fractured his leg, the green and white ensemble still had verve to grind out the result on the road.

Citizens had a dream start, as they drew first blood through Togolese striker Panawe Talbbossouma. The forward fired with a half volley from the right flank short corner kick to beat Mamba’s goalkeeper Thokozani Mkhulisi to put the capital city-based side ahead.

Shortly after the goal, Mkhulisi was injured after a scramble in the box and had to make way for substitute goalkeeper Sidumo Vilakati.
The injured shot-stopper had to be rushed to hospital and was ferried by an ambulance.
The game was characterised by injuries as the ‘keeper’s teammate Mpendulo Mamba was also injured 24 minutes into the game.
It appeared like a fracture and paramedics’ vehicle also ferried him to the hospital as the ambulance had not yet returned.

He was then replaced by Mxolisi Mkhontfo who scored the equaliser with his first touch from a free kick at the edge of the box a minute after the half-hour mark. September’s MTN League player of the month Musa Dlamini tapped a short pass to Mkhontfo who blasted a thunderbolt-shot to give Citizens’ keeper Thabo Makhae no chance.
