MBABANE – The Kingdom of Eswatini’s Under-20 squads have been handed relatively tough draws in the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V Games.

Gaborone in Botswana will be home to the regional youth games set to be staged between December 7 and 17 this year. In the draw conducted last Friday night at the Masa Hotel Rooftop, City Centre, the Under-20 boys football side has been pitted in the Group A alongside the hosts, Botswana and Zambia.
Group B consists of countries like Tanzania, Malawi, Namibia and South Africa.

The Girls Under-20 squad, on the other hand, will compete in Group B of the latest category alongside Namibia and South Africa. Group A consists of Zimbabwe, Malawi, Lesotho and Botswana.

Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane confirmed the latest development yesterday.
“We will now wait for the organisers to furnish us with the full fixture and playing details soon, otherwise, one cannot deny the fact that our squads have been handed tough draws. We are, however, confident that by December, our teams will be ready to take on some of the best the continent has to offer.

“You will recall that last time, we could only manage to come back with one bronze medal from the games. The mandate now obviously is to improve from the last performance. The last Region 5 Games were staged in Angola and it was not a really good outing for our team,” Ntiwane said.

He implored all five sporting codes that will represent the country, to ensure that they work extra hard ahead of the games.
“We will be sending gymnastics, athletics, swimming, boys and girls’ football squads. We have faith that they will represent us well,” Ntiwane said.
The games are staged after every two years.
