MBABANE – Former Eswatini Referees Association (ERA) Secretary Simanga Nhleko has been replaced by referee Banele Nhlengetfwa.

Nhleko has been appointed by the new Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) CEO and has already assumed the duties of the office. Nhlengetfwa has been appointed the new secretary of the ERA and the official handover will be done in this week’s executive committee meeting. ERA’s Executive Chairperson Sipho Kunene said the ERA extended its appreciation to Nhleko for a job well done and undivided support during his term of office.

“As the public may already know, ERA is a referees association for premier, first division and regional referees. The ERA, through the hard work of Nhleko and the executive, managed to improve the welfare of referees,” he said. Kunene added that as the ERA Executive committee and members, they were pleased with the level of excellence and professionalism shown by the former secretary and wished him well in his new job as the PLE CEO. “We say, congratulations,” he said. Kunene also thanked the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) for its commitment to the human resource development of the football referees nationally.

“The support the EFA relentlessly gives our association over the years is appreciated. Without such high level backing, we cannot be able to work for the referees and improve their welfare as we are a non profit making association,” he said. Nhlengetfwa said he was really honoured to be recognised by the organisation. “It shows that there is something right that you are doing as an individual if people entrust you with such a responsibility. I am prepared to work hard and fight to continue with the good work which was done by the former secretary. I will work towards attaining the goals of the organisation and would love to leave a mark after I am gone,” he said.
