MBABANE – Imbube Marathon is indeed the country’s flagship long distance race.

The celebrated event, which is the biggest marathon in Eswatini, takes centre-stage at Somhlolo National Stadium on Sunday, starting at 6am. Swaziland National Provident Fund (SNPF) Marketing Officer Mlungisi Dlamini confirmed that entries for the race closed, with 2 100 already registered.

According to a correspondence copied to this publication, the 10km event proved popular among runners and was sold out.
“More than 300 registered today (yesterday),” he said.

This year’s edition will be attended by athletes coming from overseas countries. Some of those who have registered are from the United States of America and Europe, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia, among other countries. Eyes will be on local athlete Sifiso Sibandze, who is in chase of a treble after winning in all the two previous editions in the marathon division.
All types of runners will be accommodated, as there are four categories. They include a half marathon, as well 10km and 3.3km events.
