MBABANE – The Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) has joined the world in mourning the demise of the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister Dr Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini.

The SNSRC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Darius Dlomo, said his organisation was gutted at hearing the news of the ex-PM’s death. Dlamini passed away while admitted to the Mkhiwa Clinic last Friday evening.
Dlomo hailed the late ex-pm for becoming the first prime minister in the kingdom to establish a fully-fledged sports ministry, which is known as the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs.

“That on its own is a clear testimony of his passion and love for sports. If I recall very well, Hlobisile Ndlovu became the first Minister of Sports in the country and this was obviously through Dlamini’s vision and passion for sports. Whenever he was available, he would not shy away from attending sports-related functions and events. He was truly a sportsman at heart.

“We are devastated at his passing and on behalf of the entire sports movement in the Kingdom of Eswatini, we mourn and send condolences to a person of no less stature than His Majesty King Mswati III, the Queen Mother, royalty, the last Cabinet he led and the entire nation on such an upsetting loss,” Dlomo said in his statement. Dlomo implored the bereaved Dlamini family, including the ex-PM’s wife, to put faith in the Lord to guide them through the tough time.

“We will forever be indebted to his leadership and the vision he had for sports. We pray fervently that the Almighty God will comfort his wife, children and his whole family. We believe that God Almighty will bandage the bleeding hearts and give them the strength soldier on. It is not only the Dlamini family that has lost a great man but the entire Swazi nation is poorer without him. We are all heartbroken and inconsolable at the latest (sic),” said Dlomo.
