MBABANE – Royal Leopard proved its superiority yesterday afternoon when they hammered Mbabane Citizens 3–0 at the Prince of Wales Ground.

The exciting game started on a high tempo and Leopard almost scored in the first minute of play as Junior Magagula’s long range effort hit the woodwork. The police ‘side defended poorly in the opening minutes of the game with a scramble inside the box and the ball rolled-out just near the goalpost. The police ensemble registered on the score sheet 25 minutes into the game. Juries Gama’s free kick on the right flack missed a Melusi Mkhwanazi header and Junior was at the right position at the right time just at the edge of the box to unleash a cracker, handing the Edwin Matsebula-led charges a lead to much excitement of their supporters.

Lead

Juries Gama should have doubled the lead a few minutes later but was denied by Citizens’ goalkeeper Thabo Makhae at point black. Citizens missed their newly-singed player, who is former Leopard defender Sizwe Khumalo. Just before the referee, Celumusa Siphepho, blew for half-time, MTN league’s leading goal scorer Lungelo Tsabedze should have added one more to his tally but the magnificent Citizens’ shot stopper also denied him a goal at close range. After the break, Leopard dominated proceedings and Citizens’ players seemed to be fatigued.

Ponda Mwamba should have equalized a few minutes later but his header was wide. Citizen coach Humphrey Mlwane substituted striker Ernest Afful for Mancoba Vilakati to sharpen the striking force but it did not work.

Solid

Machawe Dlamini had a good game as he was solid for Leopard at the back and scoring the second goal for Leopard 18 minutes into the second half was the icing on top of the cake. The defender tapped into the net following poor defending of a corner kick from the opposition and the score was 2 – 0.
