MBABANE – It’s only one game played in the MTN Premier League but already coaches are playing musical chairs.

Two top teams; Mbabane Highlanders and Manzini Sundowns, are now coach-less barely three days after playing their first games after going separate ways with their foreign mentors.

Mbabane Highlanders parted ways with South Africa born mentor Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane, on the coach’s medical grounds.
The coach is said to have tendered his resignation yesterday, a day after the derby where Highlanders lost 1-3 to their sworn arch-rivals, Mbabane Swallows.
Manzini Sundowns coach Darlington Dodo was issuing instructions from the stands during the ‘Kappa Boys’ first league clash against Tambuti.

He had reportedly still have not got his work permit. Mduduzi Shongwe was in charge of the Manzini-based side. In his first game, he managed to hold the Alou Badara-led charges to a goal-less draw at Mhlume Stadium. Interestingly the teams have assistant coaches who have the CAF Licence B, while the 2018/19 MTN Rules and Regulations state clearly that those coaches with CAF Licence are allowed to coach in the elite league.

Bongani Mhlongo according to reliable sources at Highlanders, has confirmed that he has CAF Licence B, while sources at Sundowns have also revealed that Mduduzi Shongwe also has CAF Licence B. Says the league rules for this season, article 4(a)  “All coaches, irrespective of whether the coach is a head coach or assistant, shall possess, as a minimum requirement, the NFAS Diploma Coaching Certificate and must be a member of EFA  (through the recognised Coaches Association), to qualify to be licensed and sit in the Technical Area during the football club’s official competitions and matches for the 2018/19 football season.”
