LOBAMBA – It was a perfect start for Green Mamba’s MTN premier league campaign after collecting three points against Manzini Wanderers at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Thanks to a late fortuitous strike by substitute Musa Dlamini, 16 minutes from time.
A few scoring chances were created by both teams during the tactical encounter. Wanderers’ real scoring opportunity came at the quarter-hour mark as Sicelo ‘Junior’ Simelane’s powerful ground shot just inside the 18-area box was saved by Mamba goalkeeper, Thokozani Mkhulisi, who equally rose to the occasion. A minute later, Mamba striker Banele Mdluli had his header saved by the alert Wanderers’ shot-stopper Romanus Igidimba.

The maroon and white side continued to put pressure, as Mike Dombo who was troublesome for the opposition on the left flank, had his shot wide after a brilliant individual effort. It was Thabiso Gumbi who cleared the ball for Mamba, denying Wanderers captain Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya a goal on the 30th minute of play. Wanderers’ keeper had the busiest day as Mamba had more shots on target while the opposition just managed a few.

Caleb Ngwenya’s charges had a more compact defence led by captain Banele Dlamini. The skipper’s effort on the left flank was denied by Wanderers’ keeper to force a corner.

A controversial decision not to award Mamba a penalty was made by the referee after Wanderers’ player handled the ball inside the box. This was after a quality cross had been delivered by Njabulo Thwala and was connected by Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo, who was named man of the match.
In the second half, Mamba emerged the more aggressive side as they were more offensive and quicker going forward. Xavi had his cross hit the goal post at the 66th minute of play.

It was Musa Dlamini who broke the deadlock at 74th minute with a powerful header that went past Wanderers’ keeper in a scrambled box from a right flank cross.

Njabulo Tfwala almost made it 2 – 0 for Mamba, with a loop that was just wild. Xavi had to come out as he suffered a knee injury at the stroke of regulation time and was replaced by Thabo Mngometulu.

The referee’s whistle confirmed Mamba’s win taking home three points on their first MTN league match.
