LOBAMBA – Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) runners proved invincible on the road during the inaugural Eswatini 50km relay marathon.

The Peaceful Warrior Foundation presented emaSwati with an opportunity to compete in the first-of-its kind five-member-team event at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday. UEDF’s ‘A’ team made up of Melusi Sihlongonyane, Ntokozo Dlamini, Amos Tfwala, Ntokozo Mavimbela, and Sikhumbuzo Sihlongonyane claimed gold ahead of other seasoned long distance runners. They clocked a combined time of 02:03:08 hours.

Another team from UEDF was ranked second while runners from Royal Eswatini Police completed the list of podium finishers with a time of 02:58:05 hours.
While four runners were daring to endure the entire course without assistance, the rest of the participants were required to cover 10km each. The race started at the stadium through to Emlalatini and back to the starting point.

The Mantenga Hill proved to be a nightmare for most of the runners. The race marked the end of the 50-day Eswatini fitness challenge, which was a call for the nation to exercise daily in pursuit of a goal to make the country one of the healthiest nations in the world.

The top three teams got E6 000, E4 000 and E2 000, respectively.  UEDF further got recognition for bringing the biggest contingent while Manzini Striders were rewarded for being the best dressed team.
The event would not be complete without an aerobics session featuring the prince and all the participants.
