MBABANE – South Africa-born striker, Thabiso Mokenkoane seemingly has found a new home in Malta, Europe.

The Mbabane Highlanders striker has spent close to a month in Europe where he is on trials with Zetjun Corinthians from Malta.
According to a source, the player has won the coach’s heart after scoring four goals in one match during one of their friendly games.

“He is set to sign for Corinthians following that he impressed the coach. However, he has not yet signed a contract yet as he is waiting for the chairman of the team who is reportedly out of the country. He is expected back into the camp this week,” the source said.

The source further asserted that the player’s agent was against the idea of the player coming back to Africa without having a word with the chairman of the club.
“The agent is paying all the expenses as he stays in the hotels there, so it will be pointless for the player to come back home after spending almost a month in Malta.

“He impressed and the coach said they would love to sign him and it is the chairman’s decision to sign the player,” the source said.
Efforts to get comments from Highlanders’ Mpumelelo Mnisi proved futile as his mobile phone rang unanswered when called several times yesterday.

The University of Pretoria former striker joined Highlanders mid-last season where he netted 11 goals in the MTN Premier League. The striker did not only miss the capital city giants’ pre-season training camp held in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, but missed the annual Eswatini Charity Cup. Highlanders lost 1-2 in the finals against Mbabane Swallows. The latter was defending the title.
