MBABANE – Matsapha United are still RSSC United. That is the latest development following reports of Matsapha United selling its status.

The man who agreed to the change of name from RSSC United and moved the sugarbelt side from Mhlume to Matsapha, where they became Matsapha United, Victor Malambe, has spoken out.
“I hear people say they heard someone on radio talking about the sale of the club’s elite status but I wasn’t around. What I want to say is that I’ve been quiet for too long. The people deserve to know the truth. Matsapha United’s status is mine. I’m not talking about the name but the status and it’s enshrined in RSSC United and Matsapha United’s Constitution,” he said as a response to the news about the purported sale.

He said when they moved from Mhlume, they had applied with the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) for a change of name to Mhlume United but in the end, there was Matsapha United.
“I have already met with the EFA and informed the PLS that the club is very much alive and only going to return to Mhlume. RSSC gave it to me and all documents of the club are with me and even in the EFA and PLS, there’s nobody else but me. They know our constitution states that ‘No one but me can make any movements in as far as the club’s status is concerned,” Malambe said.

He insisted that based on those grounds, he was the only person who can declare any sale or whatsoever about the status of the club or rather any movement regarding the status of the club.
“They can declare the name to be defunct but not the status, which means I am also the owner of the club. RSSC gave me the club in meetings with the EFA and PLS. EFA and PLS are well aware of all this and know we’re not selling any status,” explained Malambe.

He said the issue of Matsapha United was currently at the round table with EFA. He even said the club could revert to Mhlume Highlanders, its initial name when it was formed and represented Lubombo Regional Football Association.
“Even when we moved to Matsapha, I never sold the club, unless anyone who says that produces those agreements or proof. All minutes of the transition from RSSC United are with the EFA and PLS who I wrote to even then, affirming Matsapha and now I’ve gone back to them again,” he said.
He further explained that RSSC had not even wanted the Mhlume United name but after successful talks, they were allowed to go for it so they will revert to that. He said they were ready to have their name change in next year’s EFA Annual General Assembly.
