MBABANE - Mbabane Highlanders have congratulated their arch-rivals Mbabane Swallows on winning the Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup.

Chairman of Board of Directors at Highlanders Zweli Jele sent a heart-warming congratulatory message to their opponents in a press statement yesterday. The ‘Bull’ lost 1-2 to the Birds on Sunday. It was brace-hero Sandile Hlatshwako who netted in each half to hand the Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati-coached side the E1 million first prize.

“The Directors of Mbabane Highlanders F.C. would like to congratulate the ESwatini Post and Telecommunications Corporation for the generous act of remarkably contributing to charity; to the PLS for a well-run tournament; and to our rivals Mbabane Swallows for lifting the trophy, one more time.

Most of all, we pay our respects and salute His Majesty the King for graciously blessing the soccer bonanza with his attendance. Long live the King!”Jele said.

The chairman further said they would like to applaud the legacy of the late PLS Chairman Victor Gamedze whose visionary leadership did away with the system of teams’ supporters making phone calls. He said his pragmatic approach is what filled up the stadium.

“However, we would like to appeal both the PLS and the Sponsor not to be blind and give serious assignments to unscrupulous individuals whose mission is to fulfill their evil agendas. In future, such forces of darkness may bring the beautiful game of soccer into disrepute,” he said.

He also pointed at that they remain grateful to their supporters for the remarkable show of force and maturity that they demonstrated this past Sunday. “We are not in doubt that the message sent by our players in the field of play was that Highlanders’ glorious days are just ahead,” he added.
