MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers have been dealt a major blow ahead of today’s Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup.

While they have made some new signings, their star midfielder, Ali Matse, has not agreed terms with the maroon and white ensemble. According to sources close to the matter, Matse wanted his contract offer improved but his club could not review it.

“He is one of the key players in the club and everyone knows that. He was only proposing a reasonable contract which he thinks he deserves but Wanderers have failed to honour that,” said the source.

The source further asserted that he had given Wanderers an ultimatum that if they don’t give him what he deserves, he would not play today.
“Wanderers failed the player, they have decided not to register him for the Charity Cup,” the source said.

When reached for comment, Wanderers’ CEO Pat Mahlalela confirmed that Matse was out of today’s E1m battle. He will not face Mbabane Highlanders in the semis at 9am today at Somhlolo National Stadium and also out of the finals if they make through.

“The matter is between Ali and Wanderers. In fact, the player and the team are on a contractual dispute. The player signed for three years last year. So what is the point then of negotiating terms when you still have two years remaining in your contract? The player knows this but unfortunately both parties could not reach common ground before yesterday.” Mahlalela said.

Mahlalela further said they had to register the available players and do without him in the Charity Cup.
“He will not be available because of the pending contractual dispute. However, Wanderers have registered new players who we think can add value to team. We have registered Mthobisi Mdluli, Mcebo Mdluli and Sifiso ‘Tjovitjo’ Maseko,” he added.
