MANZINI – The SRIC/Scara Thindwa Foundation’s partnership with SSSA has led to the birth of a new baby – ladies soccer in school.

This is a project mainly about development and in only its inaugural year in this tournament, it has impressed. The tournament is sponsored by SRIC through the Scara Thindwa Foundation to the tune of E208 000. SRIC denotes Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation while SSSA stands for Swaziland Schools Sports Association. During the finals of the under-13 primary schools male soccer and the high school ladies finals, SRIC Marketing and Corporate Communications Officer Sizwe Shongwe expressed delight. “This is a development project aimed at helping the country improve its women football standard in the near future as these girls could end up elite, that’s the sole goal. I am hugely impressed with the display and standard from all the schools but the ladies did it for me,” he said.

He said looking at how they began the first edition, they can only remain hopeful it will all be a success story and they were grateful to be associated with the schools and the Scara Thindwa Foundation. SSSA Secretary Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini was over the moon with the standard displayed by the under-13s and the ladies. “The standard just keeps rising with each edition since 2010 when we started with Scara. It’s now been five years with SRIC and its all growing fast. The introduction of the ladies soccer for high schools is yet another huge investment even for the Football Association as these children will not have many problems to play in the elite stage,” he said. He thanked all the schools, teachers, SSSA, SRIC, parents and the Scara Foundation for this great project. The finals were played on Friday at Manzini Club.
