EZULWINI – The player, who was so good he was named twice, Nigeria’s soccer legend Augustine ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha, is in Eswatini.

As exclusively revealed by this newspaper yesterday, he arrived around lunchtime through the Ngwenya Border Gate in the company of Swazi legend William ‘Cool Cat’ Shongwe, who also works for SuperSport TV together with the channel’s Executive Producer, Sifiso Mbambo.

“Dwight couldn’t make it as he had to go on duty for tonight’s semi-final match between England and Croatia but it’s still going to be a beneficial visit for our country,” explained Shongwe, who introduced the visitors.

He also explained that it was courtesy of SuperSport’s Mbambo that they were here, as they had agreed on a break in one of the Southern African countries. He explained they could have gone to Lesotho, Mozambique or Botswana but chose Eswatini as it is a tourist attraction country, given its absolute monarch, the only one left in the whole world.

“I’ve been to many African countries but it’s my first time here, so now I can say I’ve been to Eswatini. I love the King here. He is a great leader who I respect so much and it is always an honour to meet our great leaders and show our respect to them.

It would be great to meet him especially since I’m here,” he said. About the Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup proposed involvement, Okocha responded; “It would be great and lovely to assist in the Charity Cup or any role I’m given to play in it. I’m used to charity as I have my own foundation back home in Nigeria.”

After learning that His Majesty King Mswati III was a soccer-loving figure, he said; “If that’s the case then we’d have a lot to talk about with him’’. However, he said there was no specific task he had in mind to be here except that it was a holiday break but would use every opportunity to meet His Majesty.

It was also brought up during the interview at Royal Swazi Spa Hotel that SuperSport’s Mbambo would also make a presentation to the King but details would not be revealed at the time. Mbambo also confirmed he would be returning to the country next Monday for the live broadcast of the CAF Champions League Group D game between Mbabane Swallows and Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel at Mavuso Sports Centre, on Tuesday afternoon.
