MBABANE – It has all come to light, and more are still coming! Mbabane Highlanders’ Chairman of the Board of Directors Zweli Jele confirmed yesterday that the team was talking to more players. This after Highlanders officially unveiled its galaxy of new stars during a supporters meeting at MVA’s offices in Mbabane.

A majority of these players were those signed from Matsapha United, but the ‘Bull’s supporters were also happy to see captain Mxolisi ‘Chocco’ Sibandze being unveiled alongside the new faces, including attacking mid-fielder Michael Musonda.
As the players each came through the door, a raucous applause greeted them, especially ‘Chocco’, who has earned huge respect from the supporters after leading the team as captain for years to date.

The likes of Vusumuzi Zungu, Jimmoh Moses, Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze, Mthobisi Mngomezulu, and goal-keeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala were also present.

Jele said they were pleased to have succeeded in securing the signatures of the tentative group of nine from Matsapha United. He said this was not the end, as they were looking to add more quality players to the team.

Talking

“We are still talking to a couple of other players. However, we have to acknowledge that we have done a good job by securing those that we have already signed.  We also have to appreciate the fact that what we have done comes with challenges. We will need the supporters to play an even bigger role in making sure that these players feel at home in our team,” he said.
Highlanders’ Chief Executive Officer Cel’colo ‘Dino’ Dlamini thanked the team’s Directors for having made it possible for the players to be signed. He said the Board had worked very hard to secure the players’ signatures.
“We now need to be united, and make sure that the project we have started becomes a success,” he said.
Highlanders’ coach Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane said all the players that have been signed had initially been on his list. He said they needed these players, and now that they had arrived, it was time to work.
“We are only missing Thabiso Mokenkoane, and I am hopeful that he will come back from his trials abroad to re-join us. He made a huge impact in the team with 11 goals last season, and we do not want to miss that. Besides him, I think I now have the team we needed. We are looking forward to improve from last season’s performance,” he said.
Ngubane added that he was also pleased with his new technical bench, which includes former Red Lions’ coach Bongani Mhlongo as assistant and physical trainer Sithembiso Shona.
“We have strengthened in all departments, and this shows that we mean business. Mhlongo is a good coach, as he has won promotion with Red Lions before. Shona had a spell with the team previously, and also has experience working with Sihlangu. I have no doubt that they will add value to the team,” he said.
