NGWENYA – “Despite the chilly weather, we had a massive attendance.”

These were comments by Engen Ngwenya Glass Mountain Bike Challenge event organiser Gary Hayter on Saturday.
There were 402 participants in the seventh edition of the annual cycling and run competition which was held at Ngwenya Glass.

The cycling section was divided into four categories namely; 70km, 42km, 20km and 7km.The Momentum Trail Run was divided into two. It was 16km and 7km long.

The 42km attracted the biggest numbers, as there were 122 cyclists who took to the trails. The 20km family ride attracted 92 cyclists while the 7km ‘Kiddies Ride’   recorded 62 participants. Only 39 competitors took part in the main race, while 65 joined the 7km Momentum Run. The 16km run participation figures were at 22. This totalled up to 402 entries.

“We were impressed by the attendance. This is a sign that the event is growing bigger and better. This is a welcome change as this means more will benefit for charity. All the proceeds will go to Cheshire Homes,” Hayter
He further thanked all companies who sponsored the race and the participants.

“Without the sponsors and all the participants, the event would not have been a success. We want to thank them for their meaningful contribution. We do hope they will join us next year,” he added.
Meanwhile, Cheshire Homes Board Chairman Themba Dlamini thanked the organisers of the event.

“Charity was the winner at the end of the day. We have been in partnership for the past three years. We have benefitted handsomely from this event and we want to thank the organisers. This event does not only benefit charity but also encourages a healthy lifestyle,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS) Vice-Secretary Morgan Rudd said they were impressed by the standard of cycling as local teams are now competitive.
