MBABANE – It has cost Mbabane Highlanders an arm and a leg to sign the nine players from Matsapha United.

The ‘Black Bull’ had to pay a staggering E450 000 for the signatures of the nine players, including South Africa’s Vusumuzi Zungu, Mthobisi Mngomezulu, Siphamandla Dhlamini and Zimbabwean defender Jimoh Moses.

The other players are Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze, Menzi Mamba, Nkosinamandla Nkambule, Mxolisi Dlamini and Khanyakwezwe Shabangu.  The players have already started training with Highlanders under South African coach Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane. The only absentee is Siphamandla, who is expected to join the club at the beginning of next week.

Sources close to the matter confirmed that Highlanders had to pay the close to half a million for the nine players, and will register them when the first registration window opens up next Monday (July 9).

Highlanders Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini, said they were doing all their best to beef up the team and compete for honours in the coming season.

“I cannot confirm figures but the players did not come cheap. We are hopeful that they will contribute positively to the team and bring back happiness to our fans. They have already started training with us,” he said.
The trio of Jimoh, Vusumuzi and ‘Sawa’ are former players at Highlanders, as they left the team soon after the formation of Matsapha United.

Dlamini (‘Dino’), who is also a former CEO of Matsapha United, thanked Matsapha for their cooperation during the negotiations.
On the other hand, Highlanders are set to offload their Zimbabwean striker Michael Musonda, to open space for the incoming crew from Matsapha United. Highlanders have also released Royal Leopard midfielder Menzi Sithole, Bongani ‘Chicken’ Sibandze, Mphikeleli ‘Rabo’ Dlamini and Green Mamba’s goalkeeper Sidumo Vilakati, who were all on loan at the ‘Bull’s kraal.
