MBABANE – Mhlume United have run to court to stop the sale of Matsapha United.

In the matter filed under a certificate of urgency at the High Court last night, the applicants seek an order interdicting Matsapha United from selling the team to any third party pending the resolution to resurrect Mhlume United (formerly RSSC).

In the papers, the applicants said they were awaiting a name change from RSSC to Mhlume, as they were a stand-alone team since 2015 following financial challenges. They alleged that their then representative in the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS), Victor Malambe, had introduced them to Matsapha United Managing Director Sipho Shongwe, who was introduced as a sponsor.

They alleged that they were awaiting drafting of agreements with the sponsor and the team’s governor when they team was registered as a company under the Matsapha United banner without their consent.
In some of their prayers, Mhlume also want review proceedings on the loss of their status so that they can return and compete in the National First Division.

These are allegations whose veracity is still to be tested in court.
The matter is pending in court.  The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS), the National Football Association of Swaziland as well as Lubombo Regional Football Association have also been cited as respondents in the matter. The respondents are yet to file their papers. Mhlume United are represented by lawyer Martin ‘Internash’ Dlamini in the matter.
