EZULWINI – Young Buffaloes coach Dominic Kunene was named the best coach for last season after his peers voted in his favour yesterday.

He beat Mbabane Swallows’ Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, who was second during the voting exercise. Kunene took home the award after getting 27 votes in the second round, while Vilakati only obtained 23 votes. In the first round, both coaches were tied at 20 votes each and others who were also voted for include Manzini Wanderers’ Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe and Green Mamba’s Caleb Ngwenya, among others.

The Swaziland Football Coaches Association (SFCA) held its first ever awards yesterday at Swaziland Water Services Corporation auditorium, at Ezulwini, where FA Vice President Comfort Shongwe was in attendance. This was during the closure of the three days coaches’ symposium.  Kunene won a night for two at the Royal Swazi Sun Hotel.

Kunene thanked to the whole team for working together. Buffaloes finished second in the league and they were crowned champions of the SwaziBank Cup.

“Thanks to the army commander for entrusting me with the job of leading the team. Through the support from the management committee, players, fans and all stakeholders, we have been able to achieve what is in front of us now,” he said.

The Chairman’s award went to National First Division League side, Milling Hot Spurs coach Xolani Mngometulu, whose team shocked many when it reached the quarter-finals of the Ingwenyama Cup and also finished in the top four bracket in the league.
