MBABANE – Former Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chief Executive Officer Zakhele Dlamini has emerged as the early favourite to replace late Lubombo FA Chairman Mangaliso Sihlongonyane.

Information obtained from sources close to the Lubombo FA yesterday is to the effect that Dlamini will likely go one on one with former Midas Mbabane City’s Chairman Polycarp Dlamini. Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA)’s Secretary Sicelo Nene confirmed that the constitution dictated that the Chairman be replaced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

He said this year’s AGM will take place on August 5th at Siphoso Primary School.
“What normally happens is that when the AGM notice is sent to teams, it goes with an invitation to nominate. Once teams have sent their nominations we then make the shortlist of those who qualify and send it back to the teams so that they can prepare for the elections” he said.

Nene revealed that the unfortunate scenario of the demise of the Chairman was that it happened after they had already sent notices to teams.
“For that reason there will be no elections this year. The Vice-Chairman will assume the duties of the Chairman until such time that we are ready to elect a new Chairman, which would most probably be at next year’s AGM,” he said.
Various LRFA affiliates who called the Times yesterday said they saw no one in the region who is more experienced than Dlamini to lead them. They said the requirements for serving in such a position demanded that one have administrative experience, which ruled out most of the people that wanted to take up the position.

“Dlamini served in the PLS for many years as CEO. He is a full time resident of the Lubombo region, and has chaired the LRFA’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) for three years after serving in the PLS’ DC for five years. He is a highly qualified administrator that we want to lead us as Chairman,” said one team official on condition of anonymity.
