‘SPOKO’ QUESTIONS SA CHIEFS TRANSFER DEALINGS

MBABANE – Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Sibusiso ‘Spoko’ Dlamini feels it is a little harsh to compare the current Amakhosi squad to previous generations.

A lot has been said lately about the ‘poor quality’ of the players the club’s management is bringing to the team, but ‘Spoko’, who played for the Naturena-based side in 2003, says people must understand that times are not the same.

“About Kaizer Chiefs, it’s just that times are not the same and everything is changing,” Dlamini told KickOff.com. “So everything is done differently, and even the time I was there, it was not the same as the time the Scara Thindwas and William Shongwes were there. So everyone has to say something about it coming to that. Yeah, people might see the difference between the old and the latest generation. But I can see the commitment, they are trying.”

Dlamini suspects the Soweto giants’ three-year trophy drought is linked to their transfer dealings.
“I think the team hasn’t invested much like before whereby they would invest more on quality players.

They used to buy players who would deliver instantly, now it’s more like Kaizer Chiefs have those players who are growing up in their structures, which is good. That’s why I’m saying times change, you cannot every time buy someone who is already made because it’s more expensive,” he told the SA soccer website.

“But making or building up players ... yes you have to do it but I think they have been doing it a lot instead of mixing the old and the up and coming youngsters,” he added as quoted by the website. “So, I think the chairman (Kaizer Motaung) will do something about it. I trust that he will. He likes the team, he likes his business. So he will do his level best to rebuild his brand,” he said.
