MBABANE - “Don’t even get to the issue of the coach for now because we will only take a decision when the technical bench presents its report.”

This was a quick response by the NFAS CEO, Frederick Mngometulu, when this reporter asked him about the future of Anthony Mdluli as Sihlangu coach after their dismal display in the COSAFA Cup.

The Anthony Mdluli-led-charges were booted out of the 18th edition of the regional tournament by a youthful Lesotho in the quarter-finals. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lesotho‘s Likuena.They went on to lose 2-0 to the Zebras of Botswana in the Plate semi-finals.
This reporter first questioned the CEO on the team’s not so convincing display to which he responded;

“You can not say it was not a convincing display because performance and results are two different things when analysing a match. We can leave that to specialists who can better comment on that. To answer your question, we cannot take any decision regarding Sihlangu; we will just wait for the team to come back. They will give us a report, and then we can take it from there,” Mngometulu said.
When he was pressed further whether Anthony Mdluli‘s job was safe or not, he was quick to cut the reporter;

“Don’t even get there, that is out of question. Like I said we have a team in South Africa that represented us, they will write a report and we will take a decision from there. Otherwise we all know they lost and were booted out of the tournament but it is not the end of the road for Sihlangu since we have AFCON qualifiers in September,” he added.
