MBABANE – Current MTN Premier League top goalscorer Charles Molopo has passed trials at South Africa’s National First Division side University of Pretoria.

Molopo, who scored 17 unmatched goals in the recently-ended season to steer Malanti Chiefs to the top six, tried his luck at the side styled AmaTuks in the past week.  He impressed the South African football second-tier gaffer in retired Bafana Bafana striker Shaun Barlett during trials in the past week.

“We’ll probably take him if demands are not too high,” said Barlett.
The South Africa-born forward’s contract at Malanti Chiefs expired at the end of the past season. This means Malanti could miss out on cashing in on the transfer of the goal-poacher.

Attempts to keep the player at the gold and black ensemble are reportedly yet to be made. Efforts to get comment from Malanti Director Dumisani Gumede, who is based in the neighbouring country, were fruitless. His phone was constantly on voicemail mode.

Malanti PRO, Lungile Dube, could only confirm that the player was out of the country to try his luck with an unidentified team, but said no decision had been made about his future.

Molopo joined the Pigg’s Peak-based ensemble in the 2016/17 season when they were campaigning in the National First Division. He is proving to be a ‘late bloomer’ following an unconvincing start in his first season.

Meanwhile, AmaTuks are in the bid to reclaim their ABSA Premiership status following a nightmarish campaign. They finished the 2017/18 campaign on a disappointing 10th spot. They were relegated from top flight football at the end of the 2015/16 season.
