‘KOKI’, TONY, ‘SWAZI BOLT’ MISS OUT ON FINAL RASA SHORTLIST

MBABANE – Only two candidates will represent Eswatini in Saturday’s Regional Annual Sports Awards (RASA) following the final shortlist announced by AUSC Region 5 yesterday.


The remaining candidates are Journalist of the Year Ntokozo Magongo of the Times of Swaziland and Junior Sportsman of the Year Thandolwethu Motsa of Taekwondo.


Missing out are Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati (Coach of the Year), Tony Tsabedze (Sportsperson of the Year), Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa (Sportsman of the Year), Phumlile Ndzinisa (Sportswomen of the Year), Carlota Munave (Junior Sportswomen of the Year), Sihlangu Semnikati (Sports Team of the Year), Mcebo Dludlu (Sportsman of the Year with Disability), and Phenduliwe Mavuso (Sportswomen of the Year with Disability).


The RASA’s are organised by the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 and will be staged at the Birchwood Hotel in Johannesburg on Saturday night.


One of the mandates of the AUSC Region 5 is to encourage, coordinate and promote the development of all sport in the Region.
The AUSC Region 5, Regional Annual Sport Award (RASA) is part of the Regional Rewards Programme aimed at providing a unique opportunity for the Region to motivate Member States, Sports Confederations, team’s sports and individual athletes by recognising and celebrating meritorious service and outstanding achievements in sport.


The objectives of RASA are to recognise, reward and celebrate the Region’s sportspersons for iconic and meritorious service in sports. The Awards is a culmination of all the Member Countries awards as all member countries are promote and celebrate sports by hosting their domestic national awards which means the RASA is selection of the best from the best. Winners of the Member countries automatically become the nominee on the eleven categories of RASA.
