MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows players are attracting South African teams like bees to a honey pot.

Left-back Sanele Mkhweli, in the company of General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane, left the country on Wednesday afternoon to meet South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Baroka FC management.

The Polokwane-based side has shown interest in the player and hope to tie a deal with Swallows.
While Mkhweli returned yesterday afternoon, having listened to what Baroka had to offer, Zwane stayed behind at the PSL side’s Ga-Mphahlele base to negotiate a transfer. Mkhweli, a Swallows and senior national team Sihlangu regular, is the second player from the record-breaking red and white giants to be heavily linked with a PSL side after Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze, who is reportedly close to joining Gavin Hunt’s Bidvest Wits.

‘Pupu’ has reportedly also received an offer from yet another PSL side, Polokwane City.
Baroka rose to prominence in 2011 by reaching the semi-final of the 2011 Nedbank Cup, defeating several Premier Soccer League sides like Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs along the way. They also managed to win the 2010–11 Vodacom League Limpopo division, but subsequently fell short at the play-off stage, to win the aspired promotion for National First Division.

In their debut season in the National First Division, they came close to gaining promotion play-offs to the PSL but fell short on goal difference on the last day with a 1–1 draw against Thanda Royal Zulu.

Goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke is Baroka’s best known player. He is known for scoring a late bicycle kick and making it to the final three in the FIFA Puskas Award. Mkhweli confirmed he was away to meet Baroka officials but directed further questions to Zwane.
“I cannot comment for now as the right person to talk to is the general manager. Otherwise, it is every player’s dream to play professionally, especially in a league like the PSL,” Mkhweli said when reached upon his return.
