GABORONE – TZD long-distance athlete Machawe Matsebula was simply the best junior in the Diacore Gaborone marathon in Botswana.

He was the winner of the 10km in the juniors’ category with a time of 35 minutes which is provisional time. There were seven TZD athletes who joined runners from around the world in the annual even that had a staggering first prize of E1.2 million yesterday.

The 18-year-old said the race was fast but he was able to stay with the leaders in the first 5km. He said his performance was not at the highest level due to cold.

“It was a fast race and I believe that I did well despite that i was not the overall winner. It makes me happy to able to defeat all the juniors who took part in the race,” he said.

Also competing were Musawenkosi Mamba who also finished in a respectable position. The quartet of Kalulu Mndlovu, Mfanukhona Sihlongonyane, Thando Matse and Simiso Ngcamphalala competed in the 21km.
