MBABANE – He is a man with a mission. That is United Kingdom tourist in yesterday’s Mbabane Parkrun, Cass Castleton, who completed his 294th run in his athletic life around the world. The runner jetted into the country on Friday just to fulfil his mission of having the highest number of runs in the world.

Castleton, 65 years old, joined other 92 parkrunners who partook in the 53rd edition of the weekly 5km timed run/jog. The English man finished the race in 43:36 minutes and was position 56 overall.
Cass, who is based in the United Kingdom, has only run three parkruns in Africa and these are in Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland. He travelled the world just to fulfil his mission of having the highest number of parkruns in the world. He has participated in 250 runs in his home country, travelled to France, United States of America, Italy, Austrualia, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Ireland, Scotland just to mention a few.

The qualified driving instructor started running parkruns in 2012 in his home country and has never looked back ever since.
Castleton said he was motivated to partake in every run.
“I just want to keep fit and be healthy. I love every parkrun I have participated in because all the people are social and kind and that is why we call it parkrun family. I like running for fun as opposed to competition. It’s about flexing my muscles and meeting new people,” Castleton said.
He further said there were people who should be given great respect – volunteers.
“The volunteers play a pivotal role in ensuring that the race is a success and we must value them because without them, there would be no parkrun,” he said.
The overall winner of this week’s parkrun was Swazi Slojos’ Sifiso Vilakati who clocked in 16:51 minutes while Delisile Ngubane emerged as the winner in the female category with a time of 30:36 minutes.
