MBABANE – They are E2 000 richer after winning the winner-takes-all Champions Challenge.

That is Malkerns-based Way Inn Pool Club who challenged the Singapore Pool Teams Knockout champions to a winner-takes-all match after their crowning a fortnight ago. Way Inn proved their mettle as league and several knockout champions as they won the game 13-7 at Mcembe, Malkerns on Thursday afternoon.

It had all started very closely contested such that no side had two-frame advantage over the other. If one took a lead, the next frame would see things level. They got 7-7 but after that Way Inn had other plans as they went on to win the match.

Easy

“It was not an easy match. The score is quite big but not the true reflection of the game. We won the final frames under very competitive circumstances to win the tie,” said Way Inn Director Muntu Dlamini.

He said the match attracted scores of pool fanatics from around Malkerns, Manzini and Mankayane who all crammed the Macembe arena. Dlamini expressed their appreciation to the fans and the host place for ensuring the big game was a success.

He further said his players got the right competition from the Police Academy Pool Club and they would take that to the Dixie’s Pool League in which they are currently second, with Garrison at the summit for the first time after last weekend’s games.

Police Academy’s Norman Khoza, who is one of their key players, thanked Way Inn for the challenge, saying they were trying their best to have a strong and competitive team as it was clubs like Way Inn that would help them achieve their set goals.
