MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows’ trip to Zambia for the first leg CAF Champions league clash against Zesco United will cost the capital city giants an arm and a leg.

The ‘Birds’, who will leave the country this afternoon and spend a night in Johannesburg, South Africa, will spend over E400 000. This will include transport to and from Johannesburg, South Africa, air tickets from Johannesburg to Ndola, Zambia, accommodation and meals, among others expenses.

This figure was confirmed by the team Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ yesterday during their morning training session at Prince of Wales Sports Ground. He said the team will spend a night in Johannesburg before connecting to Zambia tomorrow.
Zwane said they had been financially boosted by the late former Chairman Victor Gamedze’s wife, Princess Lungile.

“This trip will dig deep into the club’s pockets. We appreciate the assistance that has been given to the team by Princess Lungile. There are lot of things that she has improved with the club, and we are going to be a better team through her assistance,” he said.

“While CAF does provide the participation fee for the group stages, we have received nothing so far and we are still pleading with companies to come on board and assist financially, especially as we are now representing the country at this stage of the tournament,” he added. Swallows play the first leg match against Zesco United on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and kick-off is at 3pm.
The team is expected to bid farewell to the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala before their departure this afternoon.
