MBABANE – The championship is also at stake! Promotion to the elite league has been guaranteed but now it is about who wears the crown when the curtain falls this weekend.

Leaders Mbabane Citizens and second-placed Manzini Sea Birds are separated by just two points after last Friday night’s results.
The interesting part here is that both teams will not rely on other games to shift results to their favour but it will be every man for himself. They go head-to-head to decide who wins the championship and the E120 000 cheque.

Citizens need only a point to clinch the title in the final game of the season while Sea Birds need to win at all costs if they are to snatch the crown from the former who had been on the lead for the better part of the season with just a sole defeat. It could have all been over last Friday if Citizens beat Tinyosi instead of the 1-all draw as that would retain their four-point lead with a game to go.

“We will not look at any other result than a win. It’s a must we finish as champions and a win to celebrate the moment is all we will go for against Sea Birds,” said the club’s PRO Sifiso Hlatjwako.

He said the result against Tinyosi delayed their crowning but they would still ensure that it eventually takes place in the final game which will decide the championship.

If Citizens finish as champions, they will be E180 000 richer overall as they also won the first round prize of E60 000. If they settle for the runners-up position after the clash, Sea Birds, who beat Hub Sundowns 2-1 to set up the explosive title decider with Citizens, will take home E70 000.
