MA-SWAI SWAI SINITSANDZA NONKHE!

My dearest readers............As the honey-throated Mbabane Swallows fans belted the famous hymn, ‘Ma-Swai-swai sinitsandza nonkhe’, which threatened to raise the dead at the nearby Mdzimba Mountain, I could not help but recall a boastful comment once made by the club dearly departed boss, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze.

Candid as ever – typically boastful too – Gamedze said this Swallows side was capable of playing two league seasons without defeat. His team had just finished winning the first round cheque of E300 000 back in early December.

“Ye-Mkhulu kodvwa watsi letilwane tami te-Arsenal tadlala ngakhi wema-games tingadliwa?” he quipped, obviously knowing but just wanting to hear the sound of it. It tickled his fancy.

Me: 49 games unbeaten
VG: “Oh okay Mkhulu, you see, Swallows iya ku-50. I am telling you mkhulu,” Hehehehehehehe................I could not help but laugh. His words came to my mind as the Swallows fans belted the hymn dedicated to him, ‘Myekeleni Aphumule’ following the mind-numbing 5-1 win over a hapless Vovovo FC which all but delivered the Holy grail of local football for the second season in a row. If the Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati-led all conquering league champions beat Tambuti FC in their last league game in two weeks time, they will set an all-time record of finishing two seasons without a loss.

Their record would read: 48 games unbeaten. They would be just one game short of equalling England’s Arsenal’s Invincibles of the 2003-2004 season. Who can bet against Swallows winning the first two games of next season in the league and living to their late boss, Gamedze’s prediction?
