LOBAMBA – Like a croupier raking chips in a casino, invincible Mbabane Swallows are the ‘kings’ of the MTN Premier League ‘castle’ for the second season in a row.

Having won a boutique of nine trophies in the last three seasons, including a hat-trick of Ingwenyama Cup titles, the Swallows of Mbabane clinched the Holy Grail of Swazi football yesterday with a game to spare by simply putting listless Vovovo FC to the sword in emphatic fashion.

A first prize cheque of E750 000 has added to the first round cheque of E300 000 plus the E1.2 million of the Ingwenyama Cup and the E950 000 first prize cheque for winning the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup all which makes the ‘Beautiful Birds’, the money ‘devils’ of local football without compare.

Nearest title challengers, Young Buffaloes, who thrashed horn-less Mbabane Highlanders 3-1 at the Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday, will be bridesmaids for the second successive season.

Not at their compelling best here yesterday, the red and white glamour side, which has broken many records than plates, were still good enough to re-write the history books by extending their unbeaten league run – with the last defeat being a 3-1 loss to Royal Leopard on May 15, 2016 – to a remarkable 47 games.

With equal 47 goals to boot!
If the Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati-led all conquering league champions beat Tambuti FC in their last league game in two weeks time, they will set an all-time record of finishing two seasons without a loss.
Quite simply astonishing.

honey-throated

Yesterday, buoyed by their honey-throated fans, adorned in the T-shirts with a picture of the club’s slain boss, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, who not only belted the longest rendition of the hymn, ‘Myekeleni Aphumule’ ever heard at the end of the game here, Swallows did not even need to engage the second gear against a Vovovo FC side which offered very little resistance.
