LOBAMBA – Ruthless!  This summed up Mbabane Swallows’ march towards a second successive MTN Premier League crown as they easily brushed aside Vovovo FC 5-1 at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday.

It was a clinical display by the ‘Beautiful Birds’ as they produced a stunning four-minute second half blitz to bury the opposition in an avalanche of goals.

It was the perfect rehearsal for Swallows ahead of their CAF Champions League encounter against Zambia’s Zesco United this weekend. The ‘Birds’ could not have found better opponents as they sought to finish the mission in style. Young Buffaloes’ win over Mbabane Highlanders meant nothing in the end as the ‘Birds’ flew away with the title with a game to spare.

Ever green Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko opened the scoring with what appeared to be a deflected free kick on the head of Vovovo’s Bheki Dlamini 24th minute.
The goal brought some life into a game that appeared to have been a tortoise race in the early stages.

Vovovo reached for Swallows’ penalty area on numerous occasions but appeared afraid to upset their opponents with a goal. Mcolisi Tsabedze and Sabela Mohammed were the main culprits as they both missed gilt-edged chances in the first half.

The stage was then set for Swallows to show why they are champions early in the second half, and they did not disappoint.
First it was Njabulo Ndlovu heading onto an empty net unmarked inside the box following Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze’s well delivered corner kick.
Straight from the restart, Vovovo needlessly gave the ball away and were duly punished when Felix Badenhorst riffled a powerful shot from the edge of the box into the top corner for the third goal.  ‘Samba Jive’ then put the game beyond doubt when he squeezed in a shot at the near post in the 53rd. Much against the run of play, Vovovo got a consolation when they were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute after Swallows’ defender Stanley Umukoro budged Sabela into the ground inside the box. The striker dusted himself to score.
Substitute Daniel Atakorah put the icing on the cake with a late strike to condemn Vovovo into an embarrassing defeat.
