COACHES BACK-BITING ME – ‘KOKI’

LOBAMBA – His success at Mbabane Swallows seemingly has brought him both good and bad.

That is the red and white ensemble’s head coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, who made a startling revelation on Wednesday night in a post-match interview with Swazi TV. His side had just routed Malanti Chiefs 4-1 in the MTN League, they expect to officially win for the second successive time this Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.

“I want to say that my colleagues have also helped me very much. I want to thank them because all the things they say about me in their corners have made me strong and continue to do so,” he said without a mention of names.

Vilakati did not expand on the matter but confirmed it when he was questioned about it again in a separate interview. However, he preferred passing his message without getting into its details but mainly focussed on the match and title race with Young Buffaloes, who had also beaten Matsapha United 2-1 to delay their crowning, as they needed to win and see Buffaloes lose.

Swallows now need to beat Vovovo this Sunday to be confirmed MTN Premier League champions with one game to spare. They lead Buffaloes by four points currently.

“We had a good first half but let complacency take over in second half, as the players thought they had done the job already. I had warned them at half time that Malanti had nothing to lose and they would throw everything at us in second half,” he said about their match. He also praised striker Daniel Atakorah, who has not seen many games for his impressive performance when given the chance. He scored one of Swallows goals and assisted in Tony Tsabedze’s goal. “Daniel was impressive. He only lacks match fitness because it’s very hard to break into a team that’s winning,” he said.

Vilakati also said that as they go into the last two games of the league season, they would take it one game at a time and further respect Vovovo and Tambuti. He further said they did not look into what any other team was doing but themselves.

Meanwhile, Vilakati has won back-to-back titles with Swallows since his arrival four seasons ago. He has lifted major trophies like the Ingwenyama Cup, King’s Super Cup, SwaziBank Cup, MTN League and the now defunct Castle Premier Challenge.
