MBABANE – Respected South African gaffer Gavin Hunt has not hidden his affection for Mbabane Swallows playmaker Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze.

Hunt was left impressed by the player in a short-as-sneeze trial with Bidvest Wits two weeks ago and is determined to conclude the deal before the beginning of next season. ‘Pupu’ is expected to leave Swallows for the money spinning ABSA Premiership in July after Wits tabled a E300 000 offer for his services. “A very good player. He is a player I like and wish to have him for next season,” said Hunt when reached yesterday.

The former Black Leopard and Supersport United coach added that his bosses at Wits were working on the deal. Wits have its roots at Wits University in Johannesburg, where it was formed in 1921 by the university’s students representative council. The club competed in a variety of tournaments and leagues before eventually winning promotion to the National Football League in 1975, then South Africa’s top domestic league.
