NHLANGANO – Giants Mbabane Highlanders have responded positively to their Swazi Bank Cup semi-final exit by brushing aside 10-man Moneni Pirates to march closer to the top four on the league charts.

First half goals by the trusted duo of Mthobisi Mngomezulu and Thabiso Mokenkoane in yesterday’s feisty MTN Premier League showdown helped Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane’s men to shake off the disappointing showdown in the 0-2 Cup loss to Manzini Wanderers about a week ago.

Yesterday’s result at a packed King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano propelled the fifth-placed  ‘Black Bull’ closer to the top four, as they slashed  fourth-placed Wanderers ‘ lead to two points.

The latter were held to a 2-all draw by Red Lions in an earlier fixture. For 10th-placed Pirates, whose winless run stretched to four matches, it was despair, as they further finished the game with 10 men after winger Sihle Ndaba was sent off following a second bookable offence. He dived in the box late in the second half.

It did not take long for the hosts to hit the ground running, as good combination play gave birth to the opener when the game was 14 minutes old.  Mthobisi connected Thabiso’s back-heeled pass in the box to beat Thabiso Mkhize with a grass-cutter.
