MBABANE – With Vovovo, you do not come to the Prince of Wales Ground and get away with it.

Even during their National First Division days, Vovovo had made this small venue their fortress and Royal Leopard were moments from learning the hard way yesterday afternoon in this physical MTN League encounter. In all honesty, Leopard coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane fielded a depleted team here, resting his star players that included among others, Mcolisi ‘General’ Lukhele, Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini and Sifiso ‘Sushi’ Nkambule.

It tells of the kind of depth Ntibane has in his team as he rang changes, giving runs to fringe players but still wrestling a 2-all draw, thanks to the eye-for-goal Sifiso Matse, a January signing from Manzini Wanderers.

With his 10th league goal of the season, Mohammed Sabella put Vovovo ahead from the spot kick after 20 minutes. Sabella was sandwiched in mid-air by Phumlani Dlamini and Sikhumbuzo Magagula, coming second best in the aerial ball and referee Celumusa Siphepho pointed to the spot.

Leopard knew from here they had to work hard for a result and they reacted. Three minutes after the opening goal, centre back Phumlani Dlamini headed on the near post from a Zweli ‘Mlilo’ Nxumalo corner kick but Vovovo goalkeeper Machawe Dlamini was equal to the task.

Six minutes after the half hour mark, Leopard finally levelled matters with a Sifiso Matse header, benefitting from a pin point ‘Mlilo’ cross. Four minutes later, Vovovo restored their goal advantage with a treacherous volley from the right foot of Banele Motsa on top of the big box, to give Ntibane and his charges much to talk about in the half-time break.
