WANDERERS, LEOPARD ADVANCE IN SWAZIBANK WOMEN CUP

LOBAMBA – Manzini Wanderers and Royal Leopard are through to semi-finals of the SwaziBank Women Cup.

Wanderers cruised to a 3-0 easy win over an inexperienced Mbabane Swallows Ladies while Royal Leopard annihilated Lobamba Highlanders by 14-2 at a packed Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday. The two sides join Young Buffaloes and Siteki Ladies in the last four. The latter brushed aside Southern Divas while Mhlume forfeited the match to Buffaloes following that they had card challenges. Manzini Wanderers were the third team to confirm their place in the last four in a one-sided encounter against Swallows. Weslians enterprising striker Welile Nxumalo opened the scorers’ chart in the 28th minute while Gcinile Zwane doubled their tally in the second half. Badelisile Ngozo hammered the last nail in the coffin with a 84th minute stunner.

Despite Highlanders scoring the arguably fastest goal of the tournament through the boot of Nothando Dlamini in the 33rd second, they conceded six goals in the first stanza and eight in the second half. The Bongani Makhukhula-led charges levelled matters just three minutes into the game through Nomphulelo Magagula.The latter went on to score four more goals to inspire her side to an emphatic win.Simphiwe Simelane and Siphesihle Dlamini netted four goals apiece with Melissa Dlamini also registering her name on the scorers’ chart. Mbabane Swallows Ladies coach Aaron Mavimbela conceded that his side rarely got time to train together and admitted that Wanderers boasted players, who are in the national women’s team. Meanwhile, Wanderers coach Bongani Makhukhula attributed the win to proper planning and hard work.
