MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows star Banele ‘Pupu’ Skhondze is close to completing a surprise switch to South Africa’s top side, Bidvest Wits.

The skilful Swallows winger has been offered at pre-contract at the reigning South Africa’s Absa Premiership champions after impressing in last week’s trials.

He was supposed to agree terms with the side on Monday, but was reportedly kept waiting as the two sides could not agree on a transfer fee.  The asking price from Swallows is reportedly delaying the conclusion of the deal at the moment. The player, it was reliably gathered, was supposed to sign a pre-contract on Monday. His contract at Swallows will be up at the end of June this year.

Sikhondze could only confirm that he went for trials in the neighbouring country and did well, but said he was still waiting for the two teams to come to an agreement on the transfer talks.

“My wish is for Swallows and Wits to come into agreement in order for me to explore world football,” he said.
It could not be ascertained how much  Swallows wanted for the player, but reports suggested  Wits were prepared to pay not more than E500 000.

Sikhondze did not disclose figures involved in the deal. He is expected to get at least 10-per cent of the transfer fee.
Swallows Manager Sandile Zwane confirmed that there were negotiations between the two teams, but he also decided not to unveil the figures. He said figures would not be disclosed until the conclusion of the deal.
