MBABANE – Swim Lab’s Damien De Sousa was among the best swimmers in the South Africa Level 2 Regional Championships.

The 11-year-old won a silver medal after coming second in the 50 metres butterfly and a bronze medal in the 50 metres breaststroke. Swim Lab had sent six swimmers to the three-day championships that started on Saturday, ending on Monday.

Timo Toepfer was not left out as he brought home two bronze medals in the 50 metres and 100 metres breaststroke respectively. The other swimmers were Keana Toepfer, Lauren Young, Nina Hlophe and Hayley Hoy.

The six swimmers qualified for the championships after their sterling performance in the three days Nedbank Swaziland National Swimming Association (SNSA) National Championships, held in February at Sifundzani Primary’s swimming pool.

Swim Lab coach Welcome Nhlabatsi said it was a great performance for the duo and the rest of the team in Polokwane.
“It was a tough competition and the duo did well as they came back home with medals. The toughest competition was in the Under-10 girls,” he said.
Swim Lab is one of the clubs that have since dominated the swimming fraternity in competitions.
