TOP INTERVIEW FOR THABISO ON COMMONWEALTH GAMES PREPS

MBABANE – Even before the Commonwealth Games kick off today, Swazi boxer Thabiso Dlamini is already making headlines at the Down Under.


The Under 69kg boxer was interviewed by the SuperSport crew on his much anticipated bout with the winner between Australian and Bahamas pugilists.
Zweli Dlamini, who fights in the under 56kg, was also not left out in the previews for boxing in games that were officially opened yesterday.


During the interview, Thabiso said he was ready for the bout and hopes to qualify for the next round, quarter-finals. He will face the winner between Australia’s Nickola Terry and Hield Carl from Bahamas.
The two will take it to the ring today while Thabiso’s round is billed for Saturday. On the same day, Zweli Dlamini will face Nasir Bushir from Uganda.


The two boxers are led by experienced coaches in Samuel Tsambokhulu and Fanana ‘Tyson’ Dlamini. Thabiso will be making his second appearance in the Commonwealth Games having been competing in the 2014 games in Glasgow, Scotland. He is yet to be beaten in the country since 2010 when he won a gold medal for the country in the Zone IV Games.


Chef de Mission Pearl Dlamini said everything went well during the official opening of the games and Thabiso was the flag barrier when the country made its grand entrance. The country was among the best dressed teams.
The country is represented by 10 athletes including two boxers, Thabiso and Zweli, three cyclists, Gcina Banda, Muzi Shabangu and Mduduzi Zwane and athletes are; Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, Phumlile Ndzinisa, Thandaza Mkhaliphi and Mcebo Mkhaliphi.
