MATSAPHA – A knockout is a different game altogether. This was evident in the Police Academy Easter Pool Teams Knockout Tournament over the weekend when Correctional Services, with just one win in the MRPA Regional Pool League after eight games, were crowned champions.

This was on Easter Monday after they beat Singapore Two 13-11 in the final.
They had eliminated City Inn 13-7 in the Last 16; beat Cool Is Good 13-5 in quarters before running over Mankayane Eagles 13-7 in the semi-finals.
Worth noting is that they were a different team altogether having made amends here and there to bolster their squad.

Lift

One of those brought in to lift them up was star-studded Way Inn’s Zweli ‘Siziba’ Dlamini who joined highly rated star Flag Nxumalo along with Chester Dlamini, Andile Kayoni, Lokza Lokotfwako, Ncamiso Dlamini, Gudas Dlamini and Njabuliso Mtjali.

Teams were allowed to use players registered with other clubs as this was not an official tournament and it worked well for the debutant Correctional Services.
For their championship, they were presented E2 500, a trophy and gold medals by Assistant Superintendent Gedlemba Dlamini, who represented the National Commissioner Isaac Magagula.

Youngster

He also presented E50 each to two youngsters, one from Garrison and the other from runners-up Singapore Two for their impressive showing in the tournament.
Dlamini congratulated the winners and all the clubs that made the tournament a success without any incidents or violence and promised they would invite clubs again in the near future.
He gave E1 500 to the runners-up and silver medals while the third prize of E1 000 and bronze medals was taken by Imoto from Pigg’s Peak.
