OVER 1 000 ATHLETES IN INTER POWER GAMES

MANZINI – Over 1 000 athletes from three countries gathered in the country for the Inter Power Games.


The games, including soccer, golf, tennis, table tennis, pool, darts, malabalaba, volleyball, netball and tug of were launched on Good Friday by Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Jabulile Mashwama and Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC) Managing Director Meshack Kunene.


The games are hosted annually by electricity companies in the Southern Africa Development Countries (SADC) being Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho. This year the hosting rights were handed over to the Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC).


The Botswana bus that was involved in an accident at Malagwane ferried part of the delegation that had attended the games. The team from Botswana Power Company arrived late for the grand opening but they all joined in and played.
Mashwama said the country was proud to be hosting such games. He also highlighted to the guests that the country would be hosting its 50/50 celebration next month and they visitors were lucky to be in the country at such happier times.
“We all welcome you to the games and I hope you will all enjoy your stay and also compete well and the best teams will win,” he said.
