MALES DOMINATE PARKRUN

MBABANE – Males are proving that athletics are a male-dominated sport.


According to the latest statistics of the weekly five kilometre timed parkrun, 66 per cent were males while 33 per cent were females. In total, there were 39 runners who attended the 47th edition of the Mbabane Parkrun. The race started and finished at Mbabane Club yesterday. Despite that it was drizzling, runners/joggers successful completed the weekly race.


There were 22 males while only 11 participated under the female category. Shinning in the overall category was Umbufto Swaziland Defence Force runner Nkululeko Gama. He finished the race in 16:48 minutes while in the female category, Tina Foose reigned supreme. She clocked at 32:50 minutes.


 “For me, it’s all about staying fit as I am a professional runner. The parkrun also helps me to perfect my time. I am always striving to beat my personal best time of 14:56 minutes, and today I could not manage to outdo my record because of the slippery surface,” Gama said.


Coming second in was Mduduzi Dlamini on 17:13 minutes while Sifiso Africa Dlamini came third on 17:31minutes.In the female category, Ashlyn Atkinson came second on 35:18 minutes with Kim Goetsch finishing third.
