MBABANE – Even though his Royal Leopard team did not win the Ingwenyama Cup, NATCOM Isaac Magagula will reward his players for outdoing themselves.

Magagula, who apart from being the club’s President is also Police National Commissioner, ordered Management Committee MC Chairman Mxolisi Dlamini to make sure that part of the E500 000 runners-up prize money goes to the players. This was during the players’ courtesy call at the Police Headquarters in the presence of high ranking police officers.

“The game could have gone either way and even though you were on the losing side, I believe you outdid yourselves on the day,” Magagula said. He said the MC should first take care of the running costs once they receive their prize, and then ensure that the players are incentivised for the splendid football they displayed against Swallows.

“I had a problem with the system though that seemed to isolate Barry upfront, because I felt he was exposed against the opposition defence that outnumbered him. That is me observing, but I was happy at the passing football which was not just entertainment, but was meant to create scoring opportunities. I hate the route one football,” he said.

He paid glowing tribute to goalkeeper Phephisani Msibi for his bravery during the game and said being runners-up was a great achievement which the club should not undermine.

He said the club still had the MTN League and SwaziBank Cup competitions, where they can still demonstrate that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the country’s football. “You have to regain your status as a dominant team and watching you against Mbabane Swallows showed that you are almost there,” he said.

The club MC chairman Mxolisi ‘Master’ Dlamini thanked the president for the gesture.  He said the order to give the players a share of the prize money would be implemented in full.  When quizzed on how much the players might get, he said they were still going to do the calculations before announcing the actual package.
Coach Sifiso Nuro Ntibane hailed the support they were getting from the president and the entire Board of directors of the team.
“We are grateful for your unwavering support in good or bad times. You have never called to bash us even when we have not done well, but instead you have given us words of encouragement. We promise to continue to fight for the upliftment of the image of the organisation, in the remaining tournaments,” he said.
Phephisani also thanked Magagula for his wise words and made a vow that the team would fight to redeem itself in the SwaziBank Cup.
