MBABANE – The country’s Prime Minister (PM), Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini’s advocacy in sports development has earned him an award.

The award was presented to the PM yesterday afternoon by Inyatsi Construction’s Sipho Thomo in the presence of Ministers David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, Owen Nxumalo and Jabulani Mabuza at the Cabinet Offices.
Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) Board Chairman Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa said it was during the National Sports Awards last year where sports people were unanimous in their conclusion that the PM deserves a special award for the role that he had played in the funding and advocacy for sports development.

“It is through the continued government funding, in a difficult fiscal environment, and in the face of other pressing national priorities, that Swazi athletes and administrators have emerged and continue to excel to the benefit of the country’s image,” he said.

Mthethwa said the regional sports structures continue to draw inspiration from the country’s leaders and from skills and passion of the people when it comes to sports. He said as he speaks, there were not less than six Swazi Sports Administrators serving in the region or the continent.
“Today we are recognised by the region, attention is on our country for the amazing leadership demonstrated by the country’s elders from His Majesty King Mswati III. No country in this region is privileged to enjoy the presence of its leaders at sports events like we are. Our leaders have truly demonstrated to the whole world what the phrase ‘Sports Unite a nation’ means,” he added. Dlamini thanked the award and said he is also impressed by the job done by SNSRC.
