MBABANE – ‘World of Champions’, screams the SuperSport Television pay-off line. Indeed, Royal Leopard and Mbabane Swallows will feel like majestic champions as the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) has secured an at-own-expense deal with SuperSport to broadcast Sunday’s eagerly awaited Ingwenyama Cup final.

The landmark partnership was announced by PLS boss Mark Carmichael yesterday at Sigwaca House.
Explaining the deal, Carmichael said it will come with a host of opportunities and exposure, not only for the finalists on the day but for local football and to millions of SuperSport viewers from across the continent and as far as Asia.

SuperSport is a South African group of television channels owned by Multichoice and carried on the DStv satellite platform. It provides sports content in South Africa and many other African countries.

The channel broadcasts most of the major sporting events and leagues of association football, rugby, cricket, tennis, golf, motorsport, cycling, boxing, wrestling and athletics among others. It is the world’s second biggest English Premier League (EPL) broadcaster, presenting matches live and, where possible, in High Definition through the EPL’s Content Service.

“We have managed to secure SuperSport to cover the Ingwenyama Cup final. It is the vision of our dearly departed Chairman, Victor Gamedze, that television can take the organisation forward.

It is indeed a landmark achievement for the country as I believe, and stand to be corrected, that it will be the first local match be shown live during SuperSport’s prime time,” Carmichael said when addressing members of the media who had converged at the football house along with Ingwenyama Cup Culture Committee Chairman Prince Bukhosi, Football Association (FA) Vice President Comfort Shongwe and the tournament Management Committee members.
